To be honest: This is the only movie I know where the book couldn't reach the movie. Anne Rice discovered her love for Lestat later. In IWTV Lestat was a real son of a bitch, but from "The Vampire Lestat" on (Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Thief) he was a darling. ;)
