Framed bases [edited]
To make it clear: Credit for this wonderful idea goes to the lovely [info]cyberelf! :-) She was the one who started the framed-base-thing and I only joined her idea. That's what I created:

Hi there, sorry if this post sounds really naive but i just wondered what purpose do the bases serve?? I know they have something to do with the actual composition of the icon but what??

I really should try to start making my own icons but i don't think i would have the patience!!

Whoa! These are gorgeous! One question, though... how do you recommend best using them? Overlaying something, or cutting out the middle? (which would seem a shame, too, because even the middles are nice!)
